WFD drops off 1,300 lbs of food to local nonprofit

WILMINGTON — The local fire department delivered collected goods to a nonprofit Tuesday to help feed the hungry.

Wilmington Fire Department collected just shy of 1,300 pounds of canned goods, which it dropped off to Nourish NC, a nonprofit providing healthy food to children.

Over the course of 20 days, WFD collected non-perishables during its 20 Days of Christmas food drive. Donations were taken in at all nine fire stations Nov. 23 through Dec. 12.

Each day corresponded with a specific food item on Nourish NC’s wish list. The collected items will be used in the nonprofit’s Market on Market and backpack program to feed families that need might need a little help around this time of year.
