
WILMINGTON — Two men were arrested after a run in with Wilmington Police Department officers the department says resulted in injuries to an officer.
WPD claims officers attempted to speak to two men walking along 9th and Castle streets at 1:30 a.m. Friday, and the pair ran away.
The officers chased down 19-year-old Quashon Vareen and 20-year-old Jaziah Simmons. A release from the department claims Simmons assaulted an officer during the incident, resulting in nonlifethreatening injuries, but did not specify exactly what Simmons did or the extend of the injuries.

Vereen was allegedly found in possession of a concealed gun. Vareen was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana and resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer. He was held on a $5,000 secured bond at New Hanover County Detention Center.
Simmons was charged with carrying a concealed gun, assault on an officer and four counts of resisting, obstructing or delaying. He was transported to the detention center and is being held with no bond.
