WILMINGTON — This weekend two government entities are joining forces to ensure locals strapped for cash this holiday season can have a Thanksgiving meal.

The City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and community partners will sponsor an inaugural Community Thanksgiving Giveaway. It takes place Saturday, Nov. 19 noon to 3 p.m., at the MLK Center, 401 S. 8th St.

Anyone who attends will be able to “shop” at the pop-up grocery store for free. Items include holiday meal items, shelf-stable foods, and frozen chickens — available while supplies last.
