LELAND — The Leland Police Department’s new animal control facility is now open after finishing construction earlier this month.

The facility will serve as a temporary holding space for animals as they await pickup from owners or are transfer to Brunswick County Animal Services in Supply.

The building, located at 1952 Popular Street NE on the Town’s Municipal Operations Center campus, has been under construction since April. It has undergone renovations, including the addition of office space, six indoor dog kennels, a separate area for cats, improved storage, plus plumbing, electrical, and HVAC upgrades. It also
has space for potential future expansion.

The previous facility located adjacent to Founders Park will close permanently in conjunction with the park renovation, which is expected to begin in January.
