CAROLINA BEACH — A local restaurateur has raised tens of thousands of dollars to a nonprofit that hits close to home.
Shuckin’ Shack owner Matt Piccin is a Leukemia survivor. He co-founded the oyster bar on Carolina Beach with Sean Cook in 2007.
Fast forward to 2022, Shuckin’ Shack has 19 locations spread across the country and upon celebrating 15 years in business, it’s hosted a fundraiser for the Leukemia Society. It will be presenting a $52,000 check to a nonprofit representative early next week.
To raise funds, the restaurant chain has hosted its “Fresh and Raw” music tour in 17 cities since the end of September. The company gave away 17 years of free seafood as part of the campaign as well.
The tour ended at Shuckin’ Shacks original location on Oct. 22 with an all day, 15 year anniversary oyster roast party featuring live music from Cape Fear singer/-songwriters and country music headliners Warren Garrett and C.J. Solar.
