NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A drug arrest Monday resulted in seven charges and caused a law enforcement vehicle to crash.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, FBI Safe Streets, and the Wilmington Police Department investigated possible drug activity. Task force members attempted an investigative traffic stop on Keyana Nicole McMillian.
McMillian failed to stop for law enforcement, and officers chased her at low speeds for a couple miles. She eventually slammed hard on her brakes while on Plum Nearly Lane in an attempt to damage the task member’s vehicle. When the vehicle rear-ended McMillian’s car, it flipped over and crashed.
McMillian was taken into custody charged with multiple felonies, including assault on a government official, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, speeding to elude arrest, resisting obstruct delay, possession of schedule II narcotic (cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and assault with a deadly weapon — defined as her vehicle.
She is behind held at the NHCSO Detention Center without bond.
