Tree alliance hosts multiple fall events, in need of volunteers

WILMINGTON — The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees has a busy schedule in the upcoming month.

First up is a tree-planting event, taking place Saturday, Oct. 22. in the Sunset Park neighborhood. Volunteers will meet at Church of St. Peter the Fisherman (314 S. Carolina Ave.) at 9 a.m. The alliance will plant 57 trees throughout the neighborhood.

Founded in December 2015, the alliance works for the preservation of and restoration of the greater Wilmington area’s tree canopy.

In two weeks on Nov. 5, the group will host a free tree giveaway at Legion Stadium. There will be 1,200 3-gallon trees available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event begins at 9 a.m. Volunteers needed to help run the event.

The next tree-planting will take place Nov. 19 in the Pine Forest Cemetery near Oakdale Cemetery. The alliance’s goal is to plant 125 trees to make up for those lost during storms and due to age. Volunteers are needed the day before to help with unloading and placing trees ahead of the plantings.

Interested volunteers can sign up here.
