WILMINGTON — Three victims were found in the 300 block of Williamson Drive early Sunday morning. One was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound where he died from his injuries.
The Wilmington Police Department responded to a reported shooting at 1:14 a.m. Sunday and located an individual lying in the roadway after having been shot.
Officers performed life-saving measures until emergency personnel could arrive. The victim was taken to Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Two other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.
With the help of bystanders, WPD immediately identified a suspect who was taken into custody. Rony Julian Sanchez-Rivera, 29, has been charged with murder and assault on a law enforcement officer. He is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Center without bond.
