UPDATE: CFPUA rescinded the advisory Sunday, Oct. 9. Water service in the area has been returned to normal.
WILMINGTON — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued an emergency boil water advisory for Saturday, Oct. 8.
In the Kings Grant neighborhood, a car hit a fire hydrant and caused a leak in the water system. Crews have corrected it, but area residents could experience periods of low or no water pressure. It could increase back siphonage and bacteria into the water system.
CFPUA approximates 250 customers have been impacted on streets such as” Lord Thomas Road, Chaucer Drive, Keats Place, Fielding Drive, Lawrence Drive, Dickens Drive, Hardy Place, Shakespeare Drive, Coleridge Drive, Marlowe Drive, Wordsworth Drive, Stevenson Drive, Kipling Cout, and 5100, 5200, and 5300 Lord Tennyson Road.
Customers should boil water for 1 minute before consumption — brushing teeth, making ice, preparing food — if not using bottled water.
CFPUA lab staff will test the water to ensure safety before lifting the advisory.
