Project applications open for annual service day

WILMINGTON — Annually, the community comes together to complete projects that benefit the greater Wilmington area.

Work on Wilmington (WOW) culls thousands of volunteers to simultaneously paint area buildings, help with landscape work, build items needed in classrooms and more in the timespan of four hours. The 2023 WOW event will take place on Earth Day, April 22.

“It provides a unique opportunity to maximize community impact by making this the greenest and most memorable WOW day yet,” a WOW press release noted.

Applications are open through Oct. 17 for project consideration. Wilmington area non-profits, local governmental organizations, or schools can submit a job they need help with.

Contingencies include the project wrapping in at least four hours that would require a large number of volunteers to complete. Any needs that present hazards or danger to the volunteers are not considered (roofing, use of scaffolding, heavy use of sophisticated power tools, and excavation equipment).
