NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover officials have been selected to serve on various committees of the National Association of Counties and will work year-round as advocates for local county governments in matters at the federal level.
County commissioners Rob Zapple and Jonathan Barfield, along with County Manager Chris Coudriet were appointed by the NACo president this week to sit on one of 31 NACo committees, advisory boards and task forces this year.
Coudriet will be a part of four committees: the Healthy Counties Advisory Board, the Information Technology Standing Committee, the International Economic Development Task Force, and he will be vice chair of the Public Health and Healthy Communities Subcommittee, which is part of the Health Steering Committee.
Zapple will serve on the Resilient Counties Advisory Board and take the role of vice chair of the Land Use Subcommittee, which is part of the Enivronmental, Energy and Land Use Policy Steering Committee.
“This is an opportunity to speak for our citizens and help advise decision makers at the national level on ways they can help our communities,” Zapple said in a release.
Barfield was selected as a member of the Transportation Steering Committee.
“Being able to collaborate with other local leaders from across this great nation to find common ground that helps us improve the quality of life for all our residents is a humbling opportunity,” he said in the release.
Each of the groups will meet remotely monthly before convening in Washington D.C. for the 2023 NACo Legislative Conference Feb. 11 to 15, and again at next year’s NACo Annual Conference from July 21 to 24 in Austin, Texas.
