HAMPSTEAD — Eleven days after a fire began burning more than 1,200 acres at Holly Shelter Game Lands, crews have it almost fully contained.
According to Monday’s update from the N.C. Forest Service, suppression efforts have it up to 90% controlled. The forest service district 8 personnel, as well as the Pender County ranger will continue to command the Juniper Road Two Fire.
“Infrared drone flights will be conducted as needed to determine if any hot spots remain,” a press release noted.
Daily patrols will take place until the area is “declared cold.”
A temporary flight restriction is still in place for all aircraft within 5 miles of the fire. Officials ask the public to stay away from the roads into Holly Shelter Game Land to make it safer and easier for crews to enter and exit the location.
