SBI investigating accidental BCSO shooting

SHALLOTTE — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an accidental shooting that took place in the early morning hours of Aug. 18.

Its vice and narcotics unit, along with the BCSO S.W.A.T. team issued a search warrant in Shallotte at a Rebel Trail residence. A S.W.A.T. team officer’s weapon discharged, in turn piercing the suspect’s leg.

BCSO said the accused person was transported to a medical facility with a non-life threatening injury.

Though the discharge seems to be accidental and unintentional, according to BCSO, it’s protocol for officials to request outside agencies step in. At the request of Sheriff John Ingram and District Attorney Jon David, the NC State Bureau of Investigations will be conducting the investigation.
