WILMINGTON — The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries certified a new state record for the Red Hind fish.
Wilmington native Jared Lambert caught the 7-pound, 11.2-ounce fish near Frying Pan Tower on Aug. 6. He beat the previous record of 7-pounds, 1.6 ounces, which was caught off Cape Lookout in 2021.
Lambert used a Star Rod and Penn 6/0 reel with a live pinfish to nab the catch.
The fish was 23.06 inches long and had a 23-inch girth.
