Some North Carolinians will have access to free Covid-19 tests from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Rockefeller Foundation through Project ACT.
Project Access Covid Tests aims to make tests accessible to underserved communities. The goal is to create healthier people and spaces, to keep people working and socializing safely amid novel coronavirus spread.
Folks living in eligible zip codes can receive upward of five free at-home Covid-19 tests, shipped to their door. Around 80 counties are covered, with 13 additional counties partially covered; eligibility can be assessed here with a quick zip-code search.
“We remain committed to meeting the testing needs of priority populations across North Carolina — especially for historically marginalized communities,” Dr. Susan Kansagra, NCDHHS assistant secretary for public health, said in a release.
NCDHHS used the county Social Vulnerability Index to analyze zip codes and understand populations in need, according to median income, amount of people uninsured and the distance needed to travel to other testing options.
