BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County residents can dispose of household hazardous wastes for free once a month at the landfill.
The upcoming drop-off days are Aug. 18 and Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants must show proof of county residency or property ownership.
Every third Thursday, residents and property owners may drop off accepted items — ammonia, bleach, aerosols, lighter fluid, oil-based paints, pesticides, herbicides, propane tanks, batteries, pool/spa chemicals, disinfectants and fire extinguishers — at the Brunswick County Landfill, 172 Landfill Rd. NE in Bolivia.
All items must be labeled. Staff may refuse any item.
Materials not accepted include business or commercial waste, biological or infectious waste, hypodermic needles or syringes, radioactive waste, prescription medicine, explosives, ammunition, shock-sensitive items (crystallized ethers, picric acids, etc.), and unknown items.
Electronics, latex paints, fluorescent bulbs, automotive fluids, clothing, and smoke detectors are not included in the household hazardous waste collection; however, they are recycled at the Brunswick County Landfill year-round Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for free.
