WILMINGTON — A port city native was convicted of trafficking cocaine among other drug offenses yesterday in North Carolina Superior Court.
Gerald Jacobs, 40, will face up to 90 months in prison and a $50,000 fine after pleading guilty to one count of trafficking in cocaine by transportation, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin and one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver MDMA. Judge Kent Harrell issued the sentencing to Jacobs, who also has a prior conviction for trafficking heroin.
According to the press release, Jacobs was arrested in March 2019 after Wilmington police smelled mairjauna coming from his truck and pulled him over. After performing a probable cause search, they found 60 grams of cocaine, 23 MDMA tablets and 30 bindles of heroin. Jacobs admitted the drugs belonged to him.
“Thanks to the superb investigatory perceptions and instincts of officers from the Wilmington Police Department in this case, a massive quantity of several narcotics was taken off the streets of Wilmington,” Assistant District Attorney Brad Matthews said in a press release. “Our office remains focused on the prosecution of career offenders who continue to commit serious felonies, such as this defendant.”
