SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A robbery at a Carolina Beach store led to the arrest of three juveniles, while another remains on the lam, according to local officials.
The Carolina Beach Police Department responded to a call of larceny at the I Love CB shop (915 N. Lake Park Blvd.) around 4 p.m. Monday. According to the caller, suspects fled the scene in a black Nissan SUV with a damaged front bumper.
Officers headed into Wilmington over Snow’s Cut Bridge to attempt a traffic stop; however, the SUV darted into southbound traffic before coming to a stop in the 7400 block of Carolina Beach Road. The suspects then ran into a nearby neighborhood, away from the police, on foot.
It took five hours for Carolina Beach officers, with the help of New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and SABLE, to locate and charge the suspects, a release noted. The three juveniles apprehended are 14, 15 and 17 years old.
One 18-year-old male, of African American or Hispanic decent, is still wanted.
They were driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, according to police.
The teenagers are being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. More charges are expected, though the investigation is ongoing.
