
BURGAW — The 19th annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival kicks off June 17 and 18 and requires the closure of multiple roads for participating events.
The first festival took place in Burgaw on June 26, 2004 and has become a town tradition enjoyed by locals while also drawing in tourists. Burgaw Mayor Olivia Dawson declared June 18, 2022 as North Carolina Blueberry Festival Day in honor, yet the entire week is celebrated with festivities.
The NC Blueberry Festival Association has requested the following roads be closed during June 17-18, which has been approved by the Town of Burgaw Board of Commissioners.
- Half of Dudley Street from Wilmington Street to Fremont Street closed at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 16 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 17 for the BBQ Cook-off
- Wright Street from Wilmington Street to Fremont Street to be closed at 4 a.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18. This will include half of Courthouse Avenue with the closure ending at the alley.
- Fremont Street from Walker Street to Wright Street to be closed at 4 a.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18
- Walker Street from Wilmington Street to Fremont Street to be closed at 5 p.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18
- Walker Street from Fremont Street to Satchwell Street to be closed at 11 p.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18
- Fremont Street from Walker Street to Cowan Street to be closed at 11 p.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18
- Fremont Street from Wright Street to Dudley Street to be closed at 11 p.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Friday, June 18
- Wright Street from Fremont Street to Satchwell Street to be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18
- Dickerson Street from Wilmington Street to Satchwell Street to be closed at 11 p.m. Friday, June 17 until 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18. This will include the second half of Courthouse Avenue.
- Wright Street from Satchwell Street to Williams Street to be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 18 for the car show. Cross streets will remain open at Satchwell Street and Hayes Street.
- Temporary closure of roads to allow for the 5K run and Tour de Blueberry bicycle ride. The 5K will be held June 18 and begin at 7 a.m., with street closures starting at 6:30 a.m. including:
• South Walker Street from Fremont to Hwy 117
• South Bickett Street from Walker to Fremont
• South McNeil Street from Walker to Fremont
• South Bennett Street from Walker to Fremont
• South Campbell Street from Walker to Fremont
• South Cowan Street from Walker to Fremont
• Creekside Community
