WILMINGTON — After a successful “State of the Art/Art of the State” event hosted by Cameron Art Museum in April, it has announced an offshoot of the programming to showcase the works of youth.
CAM is hosting “Kids State of the Art” in August and has put out a call to all young North Carolina artists to participate.
Statewide youth ages 5 to 17 can drop off one piece of work on Saturday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m to 5 p.m. at CAM (3201 17th St. Ext.), or to DREAMS Center for Art Education (901 Fanning St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The display will officially open to the public on Aug. 20 as part of a community day, with free admission. The exhibit will hang through Sept. 25.
“We can’t wait to see what the young artists create, and we’ll celebrate the opening with a free community day filled with family friendly entertainment and activities,” dly,” said Georgia Mastroieni, CAM’s director of outreach and family engagement.
One work of art per young artist is allowed, as either a flat or 2D work measuring 2 feet by 3 feet; 3D works should be no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet. Weight limit is 25 pounds and all works must be display ready — framed, created on gallery wrapped canvas or mounted to a sturdy base, for example.
