NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The library system is kicking off its summer reading program Tuesday.
“Read across the County” is an initiative between New Hanover County Public Library, New Hanover County’s Office of Diversity and Equity and the Friends of New Hanover County Public Library. Last year was the inaugural season.
The second session will officially start Tuesday at the Downtown Library. Library Director Paige Owens and Chief Diversity and Equity Officer Linda Thompson are discussing this year’s book selections and forthcoming activities.
The adult title is “Hell of a Book” by Jason Mott. Young adults are encouraged to read “On the Come Up” by Angie Thomas. “New Kid” by Jerry Craft is the middle-school title, and “Last Stop” on Market Street by Matt de la Peña is the picture book of the summer.
