SURF CITY — A fire that incinerated a motel early Tuesday was extinguished by noon and one person was arrested for trespassing the property, according to local officials.
Around 5:30 a.m. officials responded to 213 N. Shore Dr. as flames were ablaze across three-quarters of the building at the former Blizzard’s Motel. Collaborative efforts from the Town of Surf City, Pender EMS and Fire Department, North Topsail Beach Fire Department, and Topsail Beach Fire Department had the fire contained by 8 a.m. and under control by 9:30 a.m.
“We are grateful that the quick response led to minimal spread of the fire and that the impact was mostly contained to the structure,” Chief Wilson said in a press release.
No one was injured, with nominal impact on surrounding buildings. Businesses on Goldsboro and Topsail drives were closed due to damaged powerlines, to be restored. Roads opened by 12:30 p.m.
Also on the scene was the Surf City Police Department, which made an arrest of someone trespassing the property; the individual is under investigation.
The cause of the fire has not yet to be determined.
