Police investigating body found in Waterford pond in Leland

LELAND — A body washed up in a pond in a Waterford housing development in Leland on Monday. Police are investigating the cause of death, according to a release from Town of Leland.

Emergency responders from the town were called to the 1000 block of Cornell Court around 8 a.m. in regard to a “suspicious property being found,” the release noted.

Helping with the investigation is New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wilmington Police Department. A dive team from Sunny Point assisted as well.

The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin has been notified, according to the Leland Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact the LPD at (910) 371-1100.
