LELAND — The Town of Leland announced Friday it joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities.
An AARP age-friendly community is “inclusive and considerate of the perspectives of all residents of all ages and all persuasions,” according to the press release.
As an AARP member, the town will seek feedback from residents of all ages on their needs and take action to fill any gaps. This could include safe and walkable streets, housing and transportation options, and access to services.
AARP will provide the town with services to help it achieve its goals.
“The Town of Leland is an amazing place to live, work, and play,” Mayor Brenda Bozeman said in the release. “We are excited that more families are choosing to call Leland home. With that growth comes the opportunity to continue improving our services and amenities like our parks, the walkability of our streets, and making sure that everyone has transportation options, even if they don’t drive. It’s crucial that we are welcoming to everyone and that residents of all ages can access our amenities.”
