WILMINGTON —  In the early morning hours Wednesday, the Wilmington Fire Department were called to midtown off Wilshire Boulevard to extinguish a house fire.

When firefighters arrived at 3:30 a.m. to the 800 block of Montclair Drive, heavy smoke and flames engulfed a home. Crews were able to douse the flames enough to do a primary building search and deemed the space clear.

The fire and hot spots that popped up for a couple hours thereafter were properly extinguished. WFD said no injuries were incurred by either firefighters or civilians; however, the home was incinerated.

Fire marshals weren’t able to determine what caused the flames and the scene was regarded unsafe to continue the investigation.
