Oak Island PD arrest suspect following shots fired

OAK ISLAND — Oak Island Police Department officers were dispatched to the corner of NE 32nd Street and E Yacht Drive at 7:12 p.m. Monday in response to reports of a fight in progress.

Shortly after arriving on scene, officers identified an individual instigating fights with multiple others. That person then barricaded themselves in a nearby storage shed, and proceeded to fire three shots from a firearm.

No injuries were reported from these shots, and a special response team was able to assist in apprehending this individual. The suspect is in custody and currently undergoing a medical evaluation. The suspect’s name is being withheld at this time. 

The scene was cleared shortly after 10 p.m. There is currently no further threat to the public, according to Oak Island Police Department.
