Brunswick and New Hanover counties under tornado watch

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Until midnight, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch in some areas of the region.

Severe storms and downpours are taking place across the Southeast from northern Florida through southern Virginia. Over two dozen tornadoes have touched down, some in Georgia and South Carolina.

The tornado watch locally affects populations of Brunswick, Columbus, and New Hanover counties.

Gusty thunderstorms could bring flash flooding, intense downpours, small hail, isolated wind gusts and travel delays.

In the event of a tornado approaching, move to a small interior room away from windows.
