SOUTHPORT — There is a planned water outage for residents in the Southport area this week.

Construction will take place at 4443 to 4467 Maritime Oak Dr. SE and at 4212 to 4244 Wax Myrtle Ct. SE in the Cottage at Mariner’s Pointe on Wednesday. It will affect Brunswick County Public Utilities water customers, as a planned outage will be scheduled Mar. 30, 9 a.m. -1 p.m., according to a Brunswick County press release.

In the event of inclement weather, the construction and water outage will be rescheduled. Water outages in a distribution system can increase the possibility for back siphonage to occur, as well as the introduction of bacteria into the water.

Brunswick County Public Utilities and the Division of Water Resources is advising consumers boil all water that will be consumed for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food — or to use bottled water altogether during this time.

A one-minute boil should kill any disease-causing bacteria that appears in the water during and right after the water outage.

More questions can be sent to Adam Seller from Brunswick County Public Utilities by calling 910-253-2657.
