Pender County Library to host American Red Cross blood drive

The American Red Cross will be set up at Pender County Library for a blood drive on Friday, Mar. 11, 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Port City Daily/File)

BURGAW — A community blood drive with the American Red Cross will take place at the Pender County Library, 103 S Cowan St., on Friday, Mar. 11, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event is being held to help mitigate the current national blood crisis, according to the American Red Cross. Blood transfusions are always needed for cancer patients and those with other diseases, as well as for premature babies, organ transplant recipients, and trauma victims.

The American Red Cross is encouraging donors of all blood types, especially those with O negative, B negative, and A negative.

Appointments can be made by calling the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or by signing up online with sponsor code “Pender” at RedCrossBlood.org.
