PENDER COUNTY – Topsail High School, Dixon High School and Pender Early College students have the opportunity to apply for scholarships offered through the Historical Society of Topsail Island.
Students must be:
- Seniors at Topsail or Dixon high school
- Homeschooled seniors assigned to Topsail or Dixon High School
- Last-year Pender Early College students in the Topsail or Dixon high school districts
Applicants will be evaluated by their grade point average (at least a 3.0), extracurricular activities, and the submission of essays and/or artwork.
All students are encouraged to apply, especially those who plan on going to a four-year college or attend a technical community college/trade school.
To apply, students will create artwork, or write a song, poem or essay (750 word minimum) based on a historical Onslow or Pender county event. Topics could include area locations such as Moore’s Creek Battlefield, Camp Davis, or Camp Lejeune; references must be accurate and suitable to the topic.
All scholarship winners will have the opportunity to personally display their submitted work at the HSTI banquet event in April.Each applicant must submit their work by Feb. 25.
Scholarships will be announced in April at the Historic Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd.; date is to be determined.
