18-year-old arrested for drunken driving after sideswiping cop car

WILMINGTON — An 18-year-old was charged with drunken driving early Saturday after he reportedly sideswiped a police car on Market Street. Police said open containers were uncovered in the driver’s vehicle after he was stopped.

According to a Wilmington Police Department news release, the officer was parked in the 900 block of the street when Gino Macias struck the patrol vehicle from behind. Macias was pulled over and searched in the 1000 block of Market Street.

Macias was arrested for DWI and issued an $800 unsecured bond.

State Highway Patrol is working on the investigation and handling other charges.

The officer was unharmed, WPD reported.
