Drug bust on 17th: New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office makes arrest

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A man is behind bars after detectives uncovered 13.52 grams of marijuana, 218.9 grams of cocaine and multiple weapons following a month-and-a-half-long investigation that led them to his doorstep.

On Jan. 10, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit pursued a search warrant at 2722 S. 17th St., the home of Jermaine Silas Matthews.

Between the residence and Matthews’s vehicle, detectives uncovered two handguns, two rifles, one shotgun, ammunition, the drugs and accompanying paraphernalia, and $14,685 in cash.

Matthews is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $250,255 secured bond for a host of charges: felony trafficking cocaine by possession, felony trafficking cocaine by manufacture, felony manufacture cocaine, felony PWIMSD cocaine, felony maintain vehicle for a controlled substance, misdemeanor maintain dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
