Surf City residents experience water outage near 210

SURF CITY — Residents living in the vicinity of N.C. Highway 210 near Watts Landing and Surf City are currently without water and under an advisory.

The outage was caused by a private contractor who drilled into a Pender County Utilities water main near the Harris Teeter in Surf City. Repair crews are on site and have isolated the broken section of line, but repairs could take several hours to complete.

Any water being used by residents in this area for human consumption – including but not limited to drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food – should be boiled first as a safety precaution.

Pender County Utilities advise vigorous boiling for one minute to kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water. Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible as well.

This advisory is in effect until further notice and will be lifted when 24-hour testing of the water comes back negative for Bac-T.
