Wilmington to close roads Sunday for Christmas parade, expect delays downtown

WILMINGTON –– Expect road closures and traffic impacts in downtown Wilmington Sunday as the Christmas parade gets underway on Front Street.

The event starts around 6 p.m. and will last roughly an hour, between Brunswick Street and Castle Street.

At 2:30 p.m., the staging areas will close, including:

  • North Front Street, between Brunswick and Walnut streets
  • Hanover Street, between 2nd and Nutt streets
  • Red Cross Street, between Water/Nutt Streets and 2nd Street

The following will close at 5 p.m. for the parade route:

  • Front Street, between Walnut and Castle streets
  • Market Street, between Water and Front
  • Castle Street, between North Front and Surrey streets
  • Church Street between North Front and Surrey streets
  • Surrey Street, between Church and Castle

Parking meters are free on Sundays, and the flat rate at the Market Street and 2nd Street decks will be $2, for the parade, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Convention Center and Riverplace will charge their regular rates.
