Shooting in Holly Tree area leaves two dead

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department have reported two people have passed away from gunshot injuries after a homicide-suicide took place Tuesday at Holly Tree Racquet and Swim Club.

Officers were called to 4950 Holly Tree Rd. where one female was found with a gunshot wound. Police performed CPR until EMS arrived; however, she died of her injuries at the scene.

A 64-year-old male suspect was rushed to New Hanover Regional Medical Center from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to WPD. Dimitri Dimitrov passed away from his injuries as well.

A detective said in a video released by WPD no children were injured and the incident appears to be isolated. He also indicated the tragedy was a domestic dispute, encouraging anyone in need of help to contact the Domestic Violence Shelter and Services: 910-343-0703.
