Man leads police on foot chase, faces gun charges, no bond

WILMINGTON — Local police detained a 31-year-old Tuesday evening for a gun charge after the suspect tried to flee from the officers on foot.

Joshua Sean Allen walked in front of an officer who was in the 700 block of S. 10th Street, when the Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Task Force Units approached a suspicious vehicle around 9:47 p.m. A press release noted that law enforcement recognized Allen from a recent shooting incident on Oct. 1.

Allen allegedly broke into a house on N. 30th Street, got in a verbal altercation with occupants inside the home, and left. Allen then returned and fired several rounds inside the home. Though no one was injured by the gunfire, there was property damage.

When the police recognized Allen on Tuesday evening, he fled on foot. The task force eventually caught him and also retrieved a handgun he dropped near a shed during the chase.

Allen is charged with:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Two felony probation violations
  • Possession of firearm by a felon
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Resist/delay/obstruct public officers

For the breaking and entering incident, he is charged with:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Breaking or entering
  • Discharge firearm occupied dwelling/moving vehicle
  • Injury to personal property

Allen is being held in the NHCSO Detention Center without bond.
