Local organizations host curbside voter registration event Tuesday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — National Voter Registration Day 2021 is Tuesday, Sept. 28, and two local organizations are joining forces to help register voters ahead of the Nov. 2, 2021 municipal elections.

Local nonprofit YWCA Lower Cape Fear, in collaboration with the League of Women Voters, welcomes individuals to register curbside, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., on Tuesday. The event takes place at YWCA, 2815 S. College Rd., and community members will not have to leave their vehicles and can drive through to register and ask questions.

“Our message is to educate and empower people to engage civically, because when we all vote we can enact the changes and policies that benefit us as a whole!” YWCA CEO Velva Jenkins said in a release.

Voters must be registered by Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. to participate in the 2021 elections. National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan annual event that aims to increase voter registration in an effort to turn out record votes each election year.
