Brunswick County Schools alters mask policy for all staff

BRUNSWICK COUNTY –– Brunswick County Schools is now requiring all students, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks in its buildings and on school buses.

Board members voted on the policy change Tuesday during its committee meeting. Previously, vaccinated employees did not need to wear masks.

The added precaution is expected to reduce the number of quarantines and keep students in physical classrooms. Current North Carolina health guidance states students will not need to isolate at home following a Covid-19 exposure if they were wearing masks “appropriately and consistently” in the school setting.

In an email, the district spokesperson said the board plans to review the policy continuously.

Student athletes will not need to wear masks while playing sports.
