NCDOT to close one lane of 17 North to remove tree

PENDER COUNTY — A tree that needs to be removed along U.S. 17 North in Hampstead will shutter a lane for one day this weekend, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

A northbound lane of U.S. 17, between Dan Owen Drive and Factory Road, will be shut off beginning at 6:30 a.m. Sunday. One lane will be open to traffic, but travelers should seek an alternate route if possible; otherwise, use caution when crews aren’t working.

A tree was struck by lightning recently and its removal process is expected to last about five hours, NCDOT said.
