Wilmington public housing CEO resigns, national search begins

WILMINGTON –– The top leader of the Wilmington Housing Authority is resigning.

After seven years in the position, Katrina Redmon’s last day is Sept. 19. The WHA Board of Commissioners accepted her resignation and is beginning the national search for her successor, according to a press release.

Redmon’s resignation comes after the news that WHA is searching for a developer partner to reconstruct Hillcrest into a mixed-income, multi-use community.

Under Redmon’s leadership, WHA completed more than $13 million in construction, including Dawson Lofts. It received a $3.4 million award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Jobs Plus program and issued $55.5 million in tax-exempt and taxable bonds.

In a press release, Redmon thanked Mayor Bill Saffo, city council and other local elected officials, past and present housing authority commissioners and her staff, residents, housing program participants, business and community partners, and stakeholders.

“Redmon stated that their efforts are important to WHA and its mission and she very much appreciates these partnerships,” according to the release. “In addition, Ms. Redmon stated that she ‘is leaving a piece of her heart with you.'”
