NHC schools hosts job fair for bus drivers

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County Schools will host a Bus Driver Fair in two weeks to gauge interest in candidates who will be able to apply for the job, even be interviewed on the spot. The county schools is hiring part-time and full-time drivers; starting pay is $14-an-hour, with benefits and a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

“Bus drivers are an important part of our school communities, and I think the compensation we’re offering really shows how much we value them,” director of transportation Mark Clawson said in a press release.

The job fair also will have current drivers on hand to speak about the job. Prospective candidates can sign up for the next free CDL license classes. The district also pays for expenses associated with the job, such as getting a bus-driving license.

“This is a great job for retirees, parents with young children, or really anyone who wants a flexible schedule and benefits of a school system job,” Clawson added.

The job fair gets underway Saturday, Aug. 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Hoggard High School. More information is available by calling 910-254-4080 or visiting www.nhcs.net/transportation.
