WILMINGTON ––– New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington have funneled a combined $4.5 million in funding from each government’s allocation from the American Rescue Plan to the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.
In turn, the chamber is offering grants to local businesses in the service, hospitality, and retail sectors.
Grant applications open up Thursday, July 1 and close July 15.
Eligible businesses must be independent, physically located in New Hanover County, and locally owned. They must have been in operation for six months prior to March 2020 with one or more business owner being a New Hanover County resident.
The business must have more than one employee (this includes part-time or seasonal positions) and be able to show it experienced some form of financial hardship due to the pandemic.
Businesses must be in good tax standing and cannot be a non-profit, a financial institution, or a home-based entity.
Once the chamber has received all applications, it will use a lottery program to select awardees. Recipients will be notified by July 30.
It is not immediately clear how much funding will be made availalble to the awardees.
