Brunswick County lifts burn ban

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — As rain alleviated a little bit of the drought experienced across southeastern North Carolina, Brunswick County lifted its burn ban, issued May 24, for unincorporated areas, effective at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

All residents located in a city or town are directed to call municipalities to inquire about open-burning and regulations.

“Only natural vegetation, which includes leaves, tree trimmings, or yard debris, can be legally burned within 100 feet of any structure,” fire marshal Andrew Thompson noted in a release.

An outdoor burning permit must be obtained by the North Carolina Forestry for burning done more than 100 feet from a structure. Permits are free and can be applied for at Brunswick County Code Administration (75 Courthouse Drive Building); online applications are also available: ncforestservice.gov/burn_permits/burn_permits_main.htm

As well, permit holders should inform Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office of their permit and any burning that will take place by calling 910-253-2505.
