SOUTHEASTERN NC — Tonight will hit record low temperatures in the Cape Fear region, so CFPUA is warning its customers to protect their plumbing to avoid freezing pipes.
Residents should drain water from outdoor plumbing and wrap pipes. Turning on the water to trickle through the system is also recommended, as well as shutting off all drain irrigation systems.
CFPUA suggests customers to drip faucets and help circulate warmer air around pipes by opening kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
Commercial business customers and homes with irrigation systems should protect their backflow preventers, which stop water supply contamination. A fiberglass cover will protect the preventers. Also, make sure all valves are closed and drain water from the assembly.
