WILMINGTON — A 16-year-old male was struck by a car in the parking lot of the MLK Center on Jan. 11, just after 2:30 p.m.
The Wilmington Police Department were called to 401 S. 8th St. to investigate the incident. The suspect who hit the victim fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. There is no evidence available to determine whether the incident was a targeted attack.
The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with non-threatening injuries. He is expected to recover. As of Jan. 12, he has been listed in a serious but stable condition.
WPD released photos of the car on Jan. 12 — a dark, 2014-2020 Chevrolet Impala, with significant damage to the passenger side. The right front quarter panel, side mirror and passenger side doors have been damaged.
The driver has been described as a white, 6-foot-tall male, somewhere between the ages of 19 and 25.
