WILMINGTON — North Carolina State Treasurer Dale Folwell presented the Thalian Association with a $3,000 check Thursday morning.

The funds represent unclaimed assets that belong to the Thalian Association.

The state treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division office has approximately 17 million properties valued at $919 million. Staff are tasked with keeping the funds safe, which come from a variety of sources, including forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, stocks, deposits, abandoned safety deposit boxes, and more.

“This is such a godsend for us,” said Susan Habas, Thalian Association executive director, in a press release. “We’ll be using the funds to support some of our smaller-scale activities and continuing our arts education mission.”
