WILMINGTON—The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and Wilmington Police Department arrested three potentially dangerous suspects yesterday, upon pulling over a Toyota Camry in the 2700 block of Bunche St.
After 5 p.m. on Dec. 3., members of the Mobile Field Force stopped the vehicle, when two passengers, Deshon Rucker, 23, and Zion Roland, 19, fled the scene on foot. Driver Don Nixon III, 18, stayed in the vehicle.
The Mobile Field Force, comprising both deputies from WPD and NHCSO, deployed the WPD K9 unit to locate the suspects and afterward took them into custody. During a perimeter search of where the suspects fled, law enforcement apprehended handguns, one of which was stolen.
They also found marijuana on Nixon during a later search, and charged him with possession with intent to sell or distribute a schedule VI controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a controlled substance in a confinement facility. Nixon was issued an $11,500 secured bond.
Rucker and Roland were jailed without bond, and both charged with resist/delay/obstruct public officer and possession of a firearm by a felon. Rucker also was charged with attempted breaking and entering and possession of firearm with a removed serial number. Roland also was charged with breaking and entering and possession of a stolen firearm.
The Mobile Field Force is a collaborative effort between both local law enforcement departments to try and reduce gun violence through proactive enforcement and community engagement.
