The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) is placing the Shearin Hills area in Castle Hayne under a precautionary boil water advisory starting Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m.
It will impact around 100 customers on McClure Circle, Linville Drive, Volk Drive, Shearin Hills Drive, Mishoe Road, Blossom Ferry Road, and Mossy Rock Court, and at 4208 Holly Shelter Road.
The advisory will remain in place until crews finish a connection to a water main and CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it’s safe to consume.
While the advisory is active, people should boil their water for at least one minute and let it cool before drinking it, brushing their teeth, making ice, preparing food, washing fruits and vegetables, giving to pets or preparing baby formula. People could also opt for bottled water or another source. Showering or bathing is still safe under the advisory.
During this period of low or no pressure in the distribution system, there is an increased potential for back siphonage and bacteria to infiltrate the water system.
