WILMINGTON, NC—For 35 years the YWCA Lower Cape Fear has honored well over 400 women for their leadership and accomplishments in southeastern NC. The annual Women of Achievements Awards recognize ladies in various categories, including Advocacy & Racial Justice, Arts & Culture, Business, Education, Health & Wellness, Public Service, Rachel Freeman Unsung Hero, and Trailblazer.
A Young Leadership Scholarship Award and Student Impact Grant also are given to two young women. Each provide financial help for higher education or to support research, programs or projects that center around eliminating racism and empowering women.
The YWCA has opened nominations for the 2021 ceremony, which will take place during Women’s History Month in March. Nominees must reside in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, or Pender counties. It’s free to nominate a person from the community, but the deadline is January 15, 2021.
The YWCA has been serving the U.S. since 1914. Part of its mission is to fight for social justice, empower women and families, and strengthen communities. It’s one of the oldest women’s organizations in the nation to promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
