The Agenda: Government meetings happening this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Jan. 13

The Leland Town Council will have an agenda review at 1 p.m. in the Town Hall at 102 Town Hall Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • FY 25-26 strategic budget discussion
  • A motion to set a special meeting for Jan. 30 to interview town attorneys

The Leland Board of Adjustment will meet in Town Hall at 2 p.m., 102 Town Hall Drive. Meetings are streamed here. The agenda includes approval of Dec. 17 meeting minutes. 

The Town of Wrightsville Beach Historic Landmark Commission will meet at 4 p.m. at 321 Causeway Drive in the Council Chambers. The agenda includes: 

  • Electing a chair and vice chair
  • Consider the application for a certification of appropriateness for a demolition project at 407 N. Lumina 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Easement Approval Group will meet at 9 a.m. at 230 Government Center Dr. An agenda was not posted by press.

Tuesday, Jan. 14

Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. The agenda includes the swearing-in of Burgaw Fire Department Engineer Matthew Wheeler and Engineer Cameron Moniack, a public hearing on the for early citizen input on the 2025-2026 budget, and consideration of appointing a tourism development authority member. 

Carolina Beach Town Council meets at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. Meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the 2025 season parking rates (read PCD’s coverage here)
  • Special presentations, including the Centennial Service Award presented to Ms. Pat Efird

The Town of Oak Island Town Council will have a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Oak Island Town Hall, 4601 E Oak Island Dr. The meeting will be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Considering items for the 2025 paid parking season 
  • Reviewing a major subdivision preliminary plat for planned unit development Waterside at Oak Island 

The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117 S. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

The agenda includes:

  • Student Dress Code and Staff Professional Attire policy 
  • 2026-2027 calendar options 
  • Transportation proposal

New Hanover County Schools will hold a budget listening session for staff from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and and community members at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. 

Wednesday, Jan. 15

The Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9 a.m. in the Public Assembly Room at 805 S. Walker Street. The meeting will be streamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Electing a Chair and Vice Chair 
  • A request for a variance from from the Pender County UDO for a 6-foot encroachment into the required 10-foot side yard setback of at a residence 

Thursday, Jan. 16

Surf City Technical Review Committee will meet at 10 a.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

Burgaw Planning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. An agenda was not posted by press.

  • An approval to terminate an agreement between Town of Leland and Renaissance Lifestyle, LLC due to a material breach.
  • Approve the master land use plan for the Mallory Creek Plantation Planned Unit Development 

The Town of Navassa Town Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at 338 Main Street. An agenda was not posted by press. The public is welcome to attend as meetings are not streamed. 

The Town of Oak Island Planning Board will meet at 9 a.m. in the Council Chambers of Oak Island Town Hall, 4601 E Oak Island Dr. The meeting will be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • A proposed zoning map amendment for approximately 51 acres from commercial-low density district to higher density residential district  

The Town of Oak Island Town Council will hold a regular meeting at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Oak Island Town Hall, 4601 E Oak Island Dr. The meeting will be livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The City of Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Southport Community Building at 223 E. Bay Street. The meeting will be livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. at the Virginia Williamson Event Center at 150 College Road NE in Bolivia. The agenda includes a president’s report and Human Resources report.

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 4717 College Acres Drive: Variance to the commercial parking frontage standards
  • 809 North Kerr Avenue: Variance to City Code Section, 18-199, detached accessory structures and ADU’s shall not exceed the height of the principal building

Topsail Beach Beach Inlet Sound Committee meets at 2 p.m. at Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Ave. Videos of the meeting are posted here; an agenda was not published by press.

The New Hanover County Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Friday, Jan. 17

Surf City Council will host a work session from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W Florence Way. Meetings are streamed here and an agenda was not posted by press.

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
